Investigation urged into pollution of river by council

For the second time in the last two months, Kilkenny County Council has polluted the River Nore, which flows through the centre of the city. An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) analysis reveals that pollution in one of its lagoons comes from the council sewage pumping station in the Market Yard. Green Party activist and party deputy leader Mary White wants to know who will take the local authority to task.

The discharges from the plant and a brewery in the heart of the city, has put additional pressure on the River Nore, the EPA said in a report.
