Residents appeal against six-storey apartment block
Three residents are appealing Cork City Council’s decision to grant planning to Frinailla Developments to build a 25-unit six-storey complex on the site of a former plumbing supplies outlet near Dennehy’s Cross in Wilton.
The development company had to wait almost two years for a decision by the board earlier this week on its massive €80 million City Square project in Blackpool.
It faces another battle in Wilton, a battleground over high-rise apartments.
Communities for Sustainable Development (CSD) lodged the latest objections on behalf of residents after a public meeting.
Spokesman Mick Murphy said the objections were based on residents’ fears about increased traffic, the height of the development and the density of housing.
“People don’t have a problem with student apartments, just the amount of it in this area,” he said.
Frinailla has lodged plans with for another major development on the site of Dennehy’s Cross garage and pub.
It bought the car showroom across the road and is preparing plans for another development there.
Meanwhile, developer Mark Kelleher lodged new plans yesterday for more apartments on an assembled site at Hawke’s Road in Bishopstown - a move that sparked more controversy in the area.
