€2.7m mortgage for Limerick council
Most of the €2.7 million mortgage charge will go towards repayments on the new €35 million headquarters built in Dooradoyle.
Details of the budget requirements to run the council will be spelt out to members at the first estimates meeting today.
The council has also acquired an adjacent site in which it will locate its road design section, library headquarters and laboratories.
A plan has been drawn up to create a Council Campus at Dooradoyle Road, centred on the new County Hall building.
It is intended to move the road planning section currently located at the old Mungret College to Dooradoyle Road.
Another huge cost to the council is incurred by malicious damage claims.
And a sum of €2 million has been set aside for claims in the coming year.
More than half the money the council will need next year to finance its services and needs will come from government grants and the local government fund.
The council has a projected expenditure for 2005 of €103.7 million.
The money will be drawn in from the following sources: Rates (€21.8 million), government grants (€33.5 million), local government fund (€22.4 million) and goods and services (€25.9 million).
Stray dogs and horses also cause a financial headache for the council.
