Government kept in the dark over DART closure

CIÉ only informed the Government of its intentions to disrupt Christmas DART services on Monday despite having already printed 150,000 leaflets to explain the closures to passengers.

Confirming that CIÉ management had agreed not to close DART services during the three weekends leading up to Christmas, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern blamed the company for its failure to keep the Government updated.

However Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny pointed to CIÉ’s leaflet as an example of the miscommunication between Government and CIÉ management, saying the whole saga smacked of bad planning.
