Report shows sharp increase in headline crimes

SERIOUS crime has risen for the first time in two-and-a-half years, statistics published yesterday show.

This includes a sharp increase in murders, robberies and gun offences.

But there was a drop in female rape cases, serious assaults and robberies of cash-in-transit vans.
