Bins left uncollected

ALMOST 3,000 households and commercial outlets in Limerick have been left without a refuse collection service following the liquidation of Limerick Waste Recycling.

Bins left uncollected

A liquidator, Pat Roche of Pricewaterhousecoopers, was appointed by the High Court last week when the court heard the company had debts of around €300,000.

Mr Roche said yesterday he is currently assessing the company’s assets before deciding what he will do.

Meanwhile, customers left with uncollected rubbish have been told they will have to make their own arrangements to find a service provider to collect their rubbish.

Oliver O’Loughlin, director of environment services at Limerick City Council said: “It is the responsibility of people to ensure waste is collected.

“They will have to make alternative arrangements. The waste legislation puts the onus on people to have their waste collected and there are service providers there.”

Angry home owners complained yesterday that they have been paying Limerick Waste Recycling bills up to recent days and had entered into direct debit arrangements with the company not knowing a threat hung over the company’s future due to High Court proceedings.

Limerick’s Live 95 FM was bombarded with phone calls from angry customers of the company.

One group said they were going to hire a lorry to collect their combined rubbish and have it delivered to the Limerick Waste Recycling facility at Galvone and leave them deal with it.
