THOUSANDS of motorists call an emergency breakdown service every year — after locking themselves out of their own cars.

The most comprehensive analysis of car breakdowns, carried out by the AA, reveals human error is the number one cause of trouble.

As many as 4,000 of the 100,000 calls made each year are from red-faced motorists who left the keys in their cars.
