ENVIRONMENTAL groups will oppose any plans to build on a piece of prime land in Killarney which came on the market yesterday.

The McShain property, worth millions, was the subject of a bitter rezoning controversy earlier this year, during which Killarney Town Council decided to rezone a five-acre site, adjoining Killarney National Park, from amenity to residential.

The rezoning enables the McShain family apply for planning permission for a development of around 12 exclusive houses, each in the €1 million bracket, and the property is being offered for sale by Killarney auctioneer Tom Spillane.
