VIDEO: Motors & Me: Peter Merrigan

Porsche 911Turbo, Range Rover, Mercedes Sprinter Van and a John Deere 7530.
Definitely love at first sight.
The Porsche has a 3.6 litre twin turbo producing 460hp. It does 0-60 in 3.6 seconds but feels fast just sitting still.

Petrol head, love anything with an engine.
Mark 2 Cortina, bench seat, column change, the only car I made money on as I sold it for £200 more than I paid for it.

I have been lucky to have owned everything from a Datsun 100A to an S Class Mercedes - but probably the most comfortable was a Volvo 850 estate which had fabulous seats.
Some years ago we drove in a convertible Mercedes 320CE through France, San Tropez, Monte Carlo and across Italy returning over the Alps which was a pretty special journey. Next up is the Irish Cannonball Run which began yesterday , It runs from Dublin to Sligo,on to Killarney and finishing in Wexford in three days with 179 other supercars, all in aid of the Make a Wish Foundation. After that I want to do Route 69, the north-south US highway.

My mother who sadly passed away some years ago but who’s motto was probably “Life’s too short, just go for it” Passenger you’d least like? My departed Uncle Archie who always drove a VW Beetle but was an appalling driver. Once he took myself and my older brother to Dublin Zoo and every time the traffic lights turned green the two of us figured out that if we both kicked the panel under the back seat together it would cause the Beetle to conk out as that was where the two six-volt batteries were. We learned some choice language on that trip.

Somewhat embarrassingly, at present it’s Rod Stewart, Blondie and The Pogues.
