Sad loss for motoring journalism

One of Ireland’s best-known motoring writers, Brian Foley, passed away recently.

Sad loss for motoring journalism

Brian, along with his late wife Mary, were involved in the production of the Auto Ireland magazine for many years and the couple were an intrinsic part of the automotive scene in this country.

Brian was a tireless supporter of Irish motorsport, in all its guises, and would have played a key role in the promotion of native racing drivers such as Derek Daly, David Kennedy, and Tommy Byrne, all of whom reached the pinnacle of the sport in Formula One.

He also played a huge part in the development of Irish rallying and would have been heavily involved in the golden era of the sport which featured drivers of the calibre of Billy Coleman, Bertie Fisher and Austin McHale.

Brian passed away after a short illness and we would like to express our deepest sympathies to his daughter Sinead on her loss.
