Volvo SUV has plug-in ability

The first Volvo designed for plug-in/electrification compatibility is a roomy seven-seater SUV that delivers 400hp/640Nm, combined with ultra-low emissions of 59g/km and high fuel efficiency (2.5 l/100km).

According to Dr Peter Mertens, senior vice -president of research and development of Volvo Car Group, the XC90 T8 is a plug-in electric, hybrid, high-performance car rolled into one.

While The XC90 T8 can go from 0 to 62mph in 5.9 seconds, the car has five driving modes that deliver a range of performance and efficiency-enhancing characteristics. Using either a scroll wheel on the centre console or a touchscreen on the dashboard, drivers can choose from hybrid, electric, power, save and AWD modes.

Volvo says that the XC90 T8 qualifies for the SEAI grant scheme for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. There is a grant of €5,000, and VRT relief of €2,500, available for the private customer and a grant of €3,800, with VRT relief of €2,500, for a commercial customer. In conjunction with this grant, the ESB also offer free home installation of a charging point, when you purchase a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
