The increasing proliferation of three-cylinder engines is continuing apace, with Volvo announcing a production programme to develop a lightweight, three-pot petrol engine.

The first Volvo designed for plug-in/electrification compatibility is a roomy seven-seater SUV that delivers 400hp/640Nm, combined with ultra-low emissions of 59g/km and high fuel efficiency (2.5 l/100km).
