Motors and Me: Shane Christie

The DeLorean was made famous when it featured as a time machine in the Back to the Future movies.

The car was made in Belfast and only around 9,000 were ever produced. The company went bankrupt in 1982.

Love at first sight, or just a means to get from A to B?

Definitely love at first sight. I mean just look at it — wow! Low, mean and it looks like a time machine.

What’s under the bonnet?

A 2.8 litre V6 Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV V6). The gearbox was also designed by PRV.

Petrol head or Sunday driver?

Definitely a petrol head. Cars are a way to enjoy life — built to be driven.

What was your first car?

A Renault 19 Supervan — stylish and practical, but the performance was great. The boot was massive.

What else do/did you own?

Ford Mondeo ST Zetec — size and power by the shedload. Peugeot 207 Sport — stylish and suprisingly roomy. Renault Megane — neat but funky.

Dream drive in dream location?

Pacific Coast Highway, California — mesmeric. Coupled with Boys of Summer, the Don Henley soundtrack. Fantastic!

Passenger you’d most like on a long journey?

My beautiful wife. She keeps me sane and grounded and laughs at my crap jokes.

Passenger you’d least like?

Someone who doesn’t like DeLoreans.

What’s on your playlist?

Kings of Leon, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones — variety is the spice of life as they say.
