Wheels & Deals

Citroën has just announced details of its much anticipated new BlueHDi 180 engine which is now available in the DS 5 model range.

This new Euro 6 compliant engine boasts a more powerful engine (up 20 bhp over the Euro 5 HDi 160 version), a latest-generation 6-speed automatic gearbox, stop/start technology and significantly lower CO2 emissions from just 118g/km.

The improvement to CO2 from 158g/km to 118g/km levels delivers clear benefits with VRT decreasing from 27% to 17% now qualifying for A4 motor tax with an annual rate of €200.

Prices start at €39,795 for DS 5 DStyle BlueHDi 180, rising to €42,695 for the range-topping DSport.

This DS 5 also boasts a new suspension set-up for enhanced comfort and dynamism. New shock absorbers dampen oscillation, improve vibration comfort and deliver a smoother ride whilst the preloaded linear valve (PLV) — a progressive damping technology — reduces sudden changes in damping force by enabling the shock absorber to produce a more linear damping curve.

The addition of a new variable-geometry turbocharger in the engine, together with higher supercharging and combustion pressures, sees the power of the DS 5 BlueHDi 180 increase by 20 bhp over the previous generation model. Comfort too, is improved, thanks to the fitment of engine balance shafts.

With the BlueHDi 180 engine, the brand is meeting Euro 6 standards, with an exhaust system comprising of an oxidation catalyst at the rear of the engine which eliminates engine-out hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) from combustion.
