ON first sight the new Mercedes CLA ‘baby coupe’ is a wondrous thing; it is an eye-catcher in every positive way that a beautiful car design should be. Its svelte lines stand it out as another classic from the home of the three-pointed star.

It may be that the car’s driving characteristics do not quite live up to the promise which the looks portray — and not by much — but Mercedes will sell this car on the basis of its

visual attractiveness — looks that will be a magnet for many punters.
