UTV Media has agreed to sell its television assets to ITV for €135m, subject to regulatory and shareholder approval.

The new UTV Ireland television station generated a loss of £7.5m (€10.2m) in the first half of this year; representing approximately 65% of the venture’s anticipated losses for the full year.

UTV Media has reported a first-half pre-tax profit of £1 million, down from £10 million last year.

Just months after being launched, UTV’s Irish television station could be offloaded along with the rest of the group’s TV assets.

TV broadcaster UTV has confirmed it is in talks about selling its television assets.
