The World Health Organisation (WHO) has released a plan to help countries wipe out trans fats from the global food supply in the next five years.

Trans fatty acids, one of the biggest contributors to Europe’s number one killer of heart disease, may be banned or labelled following an investigation by the EU.

A processed food product demonised because of its allegedly toxic effects may be safe in small amounts and one version could even protect against heart deaths, research has shown.
