FOOT-and-mouth disease in Britain is unlikely to spread beyond a small area, according to a New Zealand expert in computer modelling and predicting the spread of diseases such as foot and mouth and bird flu.

Peter Winkworth expressed confusion after being the only trainer caught up in restrictions caused by the current foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.

Officials at the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) do not envisage the current outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the UK having any immediate impact on racing.
