VANDALISM, petty crime and burglaries are all too common. No city, town or village escapes. It seems to be the in-thing now to break, destroy and desecrate everything that comes in the way of the vandal. Nothing is sacred anymore.

IN recent weeks, accompanied by a doctor friend, I visited some hospital A&E departments in Dublin and Cork, where overcrowding and other related problems disturbed and saddened me.
