Galway City Councillors have voted to provide water filters to all houses affected by the lead contamination crisis.

Residents in Galway are to mount a protest at City Hall later today to highlight their anger over the handling of the city's lead contamination crisis.

The Environmental Protection Agency says it has received 23 notifications of breaches since new regulations on lead levels in water came into force last year.

The Minister for the Environment has said the contamination crisis affecting Galway’s water supply must be addressed by the City Council in cooperation with the EPA and the HSE.

More drinking water problems have emerged in Galway, with residents in some parts of the city warned about high levels of lead in their supply.
