Lead contamination found in Galway drinking water
More drinking water problems have emerged in Galway, with residents in some parts of the city warned about high levels of lead in their supply.
The contamination has been detected in the Old Mervue, Shantalla, Bohermore and Claddagh areas, where lead piping is installed in properties built before 1970.
Arrangements are being made to provide a safe supply as boiling the water will not remove lead.
Officials are continuing to conduct sampling to determine the extent of the problem, but up to 5,000 homes could be affected.
