IRISH FERRIES is seeking €7 million from the taxpayer to cover the statutory cost of laying off 500 of its Irish workers.

TAXPAYERS’ money must not be used to facilitate Irish Ferries’ policy of replacing Irish staff with low-paid alternatives, SIPTU president Jack O’Connor demanded last night.
