To read Alison O’Connor (Irish Examiner, August 28), it would appear that the peace process started with Ahern and Blair, and because “Fine Gael did not broker this historic agreement... this will always stick in the craw of Fine Gael”. I was surprised to read such mean-minded words.

A good domestic rainwater harvesting system can be bought for less than the €100 grant and still leave a few euro for a modest celebratory drink of Uisce Beatha to toast all those who both pay for and conserve their water. Sláinte!

In an article on Brian Cowen’s evidence to the banking inquiry (Irish Examiner, July 23), Michael Clifford says of Cowen, “He appears to have shown a serious lack of curiosity about what was unfolding around him”. 

I HAVE just been reading our constitution and at the very start it states we the people of Ireland seek “to promote the common good, with due observance of prudence, justice and charity so that the dignity and freedom of the individual may be assured”.
