Ancient versions of 1m tall ‘hobbits’ discovered on an Indonesian island have been unearthed by scientists — and they appear to be even smaller than the originals.

The Australian archaeologist who rocked the science world with his discovery of a tiny new species of human known as the “hobbit” has died after a year-long battle with cancer, his university said.

REMAINS of at least nine ‘hobbits’ have been discovered, making it almost certain that the three-foot-tall creatures really are a new species of human.
