Voting in the general election is continuing today on islands off the west coast of the country.

The everyday world of electric cookers and showers and storage heating was today finally opened up for the 85 residents of an off-shore Mayo island.

The suspect package which caused the anthrax scare on the island of Inisturk yesterday has been categorised as being of no risk, according to gardai in Westport.

Voters on the three Mayo islands of Inisbiggle, Inisturk and Clare Island are going to the polls today to vote on the three referenda.
