Someone could have been killed when a disqualified driver drove through a junction in reverse on the wrong side of the road in an effort to get away from gardaí, a court heard yesterday.

A 63-year-old woman woke to find a drunken intruder in her bedroom and when she told him he might have walked into the wrong house he raised his voice aggressively and said he was not in the wrong house.

Gardaí responded to an anonymous call claiming that a man produced a gun during a row and put it to the head of another and yesterday a man who admitted possessing the replica semi-automatic pistol and blank cartridges was jailed for 18 months.

Gardaí in Cork are continuing their investigations after a man was stabbed in the arm and struck on the head with a hammer.
