Gardaí and road safety groups are bracing themselves for the forthcoming August Bank Holiday weekend after six people died within 24 hours on Saturday.

There has been an armed robbery on a service station in Cabinteely in Dublin.

A pedestrian has died following a road traffic accident in Cornelstown in south Dublin last night bringing the total of people who have been killed on Irish roads this week to six.
