NO OFFENCE intended to that silly old bear Winnie the Pooh (G), but it’s a telling indictment of the week’s releases that an animated movie for a young audience is the most accomplished film of the week.

Wendy – the excellent Williams – is heading to a summer job in Alaska but gets into a lot of trouble when she stops off in a deadbeat, going-nowhere town in Oregon, ends up in jail after stealing some dog food for Lucy, her four-footed and only close companion and goes looking for the mutt.

They’re talking Oscars for Jolie, and certainly her impressive performance in this outstanding drama deserves it.

A charmless screen version of the title-named comic-book character in which cold revenge is the theme; and in which the laughable Travolta illustrates another of his slides into the unwatchable.
