Quentin Tarantino, the Coen brothers and Gus Van Sant - all past winners of the Cannes Film Festival - are in the running for a second trophy as the French Riviera festival celebrates its 60th anniversary next month.

A film inspired by the final days of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain gets its world premiere at Cannes today.

The Cannes Film Festival is back in the hands of comfy old friends with a line-up that includes such familiar filmmakers as Woody Allen, David Cronenberg, Gus Van Sant, Wim Wenders, Lars von Trier and Atom Egoyan.
