ZIMBABWE’s opposition won the vote for speaker of the first parliament since disputed elections in March — apparently claiming votes even from the ruling party of autocratic President Robert Mugabe yesterday amid stalled talks over sharing power.

The candidate for Zimbabwe’s main opposition party was given the top job in parliament today after MPs were sworn in some five months after they were elected.
