West Waterford’s Gary Hurley stormed into the lead in the European Amateur Championship on the Dukes Course at St Andrews yesterday following a stunning opening round.

Mr Thriller made it two from two for the David Pipe yard by overcoming a howler at the second-last to take the Docker Hughes Memorial Novices' Hurdle at Fontwell.
