I should like to put on the record my opinion that although the sexual abuse of young children by Father Brendan Smyth was undoubtedly criminal, the concealment of those crimes by Cardinal Sean Brady was evil.

FOLLOWING the rejection of the referendum on Dáil investigations, it strikes me that a lot more than bankers, ex-attorneys general and politicians were scared witless about being called to account for their actions, however unlikely that event might be.

IS it too much to ask, in these straitened times, that everyone is given a fair crack of the whip and that in particular those politicians, bankers, et al, who landed us in the soup are given several strokes of it so they are not tempted to perform a similar scam on us in the future?

AS I watch in fascinated horror at the inexorable progress of the Green party in committing an act of political suicide by nailing their colours, alongside those of their coalition partners, on the mast of the slowly sinking ship Ireland Inc, in pursuit of an insane policy spearheaded by NAMA, they would do well carefully to consider their current position.
