AN Indian court yesterday convicted a Pakistani man of murder and waging war for his role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that left 166 people dead in the heart of India’s financial capital.

The trial of the only surviving gunman from the Mumbai massacre began today with the prosecutor calling the attacks “a criminal conspiracy hatched in Pakistan to attack India”.

A lawyer has been appointed for the lone surviving gunman in the Mumbai terror attacks.

SOMETIMES breaking into laughter, the man accused of being the lone surviving gunman in last year’s Mumbai attacks told an Indian court yesterday that he was from Pakistan and wanted legal assistance, officials said.

The Pakistani-based militant group blamed for the Mumbai attacks kept an Indian militant as a “pointman” to shepherd gunmen across the porous border, police said.
