Irish experts have said the discovery of a gene that makes bacteria resistant to the last line in antibiotic defences is worrying.

Scientists have discovered a species of bacteria in Cork which could be passed from monkeys to humans, with potentially fatal results for elderly people or those in poor health.

RESEARCHERS at Cork Institute of Technology have uncovered a new deadly bacteria which they believe is responsible for more cases of food poisoning than either E. Coli or Salmonella.
