CORK hurling captain Kieran ‘Fraggy’ Murphy says “over the last few years fellas were used to a free-flowing games between Cork and Waterford, but on Sunday it was a lot tighter, a lot more tactical around the middle of the field. Players were finding it hard to get a bit of space — that was true of both teams.”

SEÁN ÓG Ó hAILPÍN has ruled himself out of Saturday night’s replay of the Munster SHC final with Waterford, with his hamstring injury requiring “two to three weeks” to heal.

The replay? I’m really looking forward to that, though I doubt we’ll see the same two starting line-ups the next day.

LAST weekend, and not for the first time this year, you’d have to say the football outshone the hurling, big-time – a bad Leinster final in Croke Park.

AND SO to Waterford on a sunny weekend. We spent most of Saturday afternoon at a GAA club function in the Crystal City, which was conducted half al fresco and half al taverna, if you’ll forgive the pidgin Italian. The al fresco part was the most enjoyable, given the variety of delights on offer.
