Jenson Button was furious after “pathetic” backmarkers cost him valuable seconds as he missed out on a maiden Formula One victory in the Monaco Grand Prix.

Brazil’s Rubens Barrichello triumphed in one of the most dramatic British Grands Prix of recent years after a demonstrator risked his life by running along the Silverstone track today.

Barrichello, whose future at Ferrari is understood to be in doubt, took the chequered flag for the sixth victory of his career today, maintaining fifth place in the drivers’ championship, but with a much more healthy 49 points.

With 20 laps remaining, Raikkonen is just two tenths clear of Barrichello.

Raikkonen has taken the lead at the start of lap 31 due to da Matta pitting, albeit with a good stop of 6.8 seconds.

Today’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone was disrupted by a protester who forced his way on to the track and walked into the path of the high-speed Formula One cars.
