Raikkonen holds slender lead

With 20 laps remaining, Raikkonen is just two tenths clear of Barrichello.

Da Matta and Montoya are third and fourth, while Michael Schumacher is back in 10th, although the BARs of Villeneuve and Button had yet to make their second stop.

Schumacher had moved into the points on lap 32 after making his way past Jacques Villeneuve.

That was followed two laps later by Pizzonia becoming the first retirement of the race as smoke emerged from his Jaguar’s Cosworth engine, eventually pulling the car over at Stowe.

Raikkonen soon made his second stop 25 laps from home, with the Finn out again in 9.7secs, which moved Barrichello into the lead and with the Brazilian then clocking the fastest lap of the race on lap 37 of one minute 22 seconds.

Barrichello then came in on lap 39 and clocked nine seconds for his stop, which handed the lead back to Raikkonen.
