Marie Damaswamy has resigned as president of the National Parents Council’s post-primary organisation with immediate effect.

Almost 3,400 pupils leave school every year without any formal qualifications, according to a survey by the National Economic and Social Forum.

ASTI general secretary Charlie Lennon said teachers' campaign for a pay rise "will end when the Minister makes us an offer that we can’t refuse".

The president of the National Parents Council has left the ASTI convention in Galway following alleged intimidation.
