Rod Stewart has lost his long-running legal battle with a Las Vegas casino, and has been ordered to pay them $2.9m (€2.4m) by a federal judge.

ONE of the largest collections of civil actions against the Roman Catholic church came to a close when the Archdiocese of Louisville agreed to pay $25.7 million to 243 people who accuse d priests and employees of child sexual abuse.

As his victims sat behind him in the courtroom, a retired Roman Catholic priest pleaded guilty yesterday to sexually abusing 21 children.
