I REFER to the letter headlined ‘Why journalists sometimes treat priests unfairly: an incomplete thesis” by Joseph Barry (Irish Examiner, November 1).

RORY CONNOR, in his letter headlined ‘Trial by Media’ (Irish Examiner, October 18), tells us how the Los Angeles Times seems to want to blacken the reputation of Catholic clergy, using issues such as rape and child abuse.

THE Sex Offenders Register could be replaced by a violent offenders register.

I REFER to Patrick Geaney’s letter (‘What the Church’s oath of perpetual silence really means,’ Irish Examiner, June 20).

JOSEPH BARRY (Irish Examiner letters, June 1) wrongly concludes that “the strictest secret” in the Vatican document Crimen Sollicitationis refers to “the secrets which a Catholic priest hears from penitents in confession.”

THE High Court judgment concerning the legitimacy of the Oireachtas inquiry into Judge Curtin’s alleged misbehaviour is most welcome.
