GARDAÍ are to send a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions on allegations of vote-rigging in Thurles during the June local elections.

THE mayor who instigated a garda investigation into alleged vote rigging during the local elections in Tipperary revealed yesterday he was only supported by one colleague when he first tried to raise the matter.

GARDAÍ are investigating allegations of vote-rigging in Tipperary during the last local elections, where up to 300 people could have cast falsified votes.

Extremely serious allegations have been made in relation to vote-rigging and personation in Thurles in the last local election which, if proved to be true and as extensive as suspected, could possibly have distorted the results.

As fears over the future of the GMX plant in Thurles continue a member of the town's urban district council is calling on the Tanaiste to take action sooner rather than later.
