Rotherham have cancelled the remaining year on Guy Easterby’s contract to allow the Irish scrum-half to sign for Leinster.

Rotherham’s return to the Zurich Premiership was today sealed by England Rugby Ltd and welcomed with a “sheer sense of relief” by the club’s chairman Jim Kilfoyle, who has battled for the last two years to bring top-flight rugby back to the town.

Rotherham are unlikely to discover until next week whether or not they have secured Zurich Premiership status.

London Irish believe Powergen Cup quarter-final opponents Rotherham will be “out to prove a point” in tomorrow’s clash at the Madejski Stadium.
