Kerry County Councillor and publican Danny Healy- Rae has been summonsed for allegedly having his public house at Main St, Kilgarvan, open after hours on two occasions.

Two Chinese "bandits" have been given seven-year sentences for their "brutal and vicious" armed robbery on female fellow nationals in which they stabbed a garda who had helped foil their criminal escapade.

The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, said he would consider the introduction of protective vests for gardaí in high-risk situations.
