A Co Westmeath man was jailed for life at the Central Criminal Court today after he was convicted of murdering an elderly pensioner whose bank PIN number he wanted.

A 37-year-old man went on trial this afternoon accused of murdering an 82-year-old retired council engineer in Mullingar just over a year ago.

A man has been charged with the murder of an elderly man at the weekend.
