Man charged in connection with pensioner murder

A man has been charged with the murder of an elderly man at the weekend.

Thirty-six-year-old Ian Kinahan of no fixed abode appeared before Mullingar District Court this afternoon charged in connection with the death of 82-year-old Michael Creighton.

Mr Creighton was found dead in his apartment in Castle Street, Mullingar, Co Westmeath on Sunday.

A post mortem revealed he suffered extensive injuries to his body prior to death.
