THE motor industry representative body has called for a change to the current registration plate system as the sector faces into a fresh downturn following the ending of the scrappage system.

Just under 30,000 new cars were sold under the Government scrappage scheme, according to a review of the scheme published today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
