The Justice Minister Alan Shatter has this afternoon welcomed reports of a move by AIB who are said to be considering offering mortgage write-offs for some of its customers.

AIB has said it is considering offering mortgage write-offs for some of its customers who are in severe difficulties with making their repayments.

AIB are stepping up the pace of mortgage write-offs by offering customers who work with them a chance to cancel some of the debt they owe the bank.
