Convicted killer Frederick 'Freddie' Thompson has brought a High Court challenge over what he claims is the " extremely oppressive" and the "severe" regime he is being subjected to at Portlaoise Prison.

A detective sergeant has identified Frederick 'Freddie' Thompson as the man in one of four ‘spotter’ cars allegedly used in the killing of a Dublin shoe shop manager.

An 18-year-old man has been sent forward for trial to the Special Criminal Court after he was charged with the murder of David ‘Daithi’ Douglas who was shot dead on a Dublin street last year.
