Set in pre-WWI London, Suffragette (12A) is a stirring account of the campaign for women’s voting rights which was led by Emmeline Pankhurst (a very brief cameo from Meryl Streep).

On Tuesday, June 10, between 1pm and 2pm an hour of civil disruption will be held in honour of suffragette Emily Wilding Davison who was killed at the Derby on June 4, 1913 by the King’s horse in her attempt to bring public attention to the fact that women did not have the vote.

FIRM favourite to win the Epsom Derby, 100 years ago today, was Craganour, bred by Lord Dunraven at Adare, Co Limerick, and owned by Bower Ismay, brother of the shipping magnate, J Bruce Ismay, who was rescued from the Titanic.
