Eddie Collins-Hughes, the director of the Carers Association, has announced plans to contest the upcoming general election as an independent candidate.

Carers have been slamming the budget, saying there is little in Minister McCreevy's speech to back up the plans unveiled in the health plan last week.

Director of the Carers Association, Eddie Collins-Hughes described the current health strategy as "a shambles".
